Requiem For A Dream Review

Well, here we go again. Another movie in cinematography which gave us the feeling that our addictions may kill us, destroy us and even forget our own selves. Alcoholics, drug addicts, money addicts, no matter what kind of addiction is it, you will do any-fucking-thing to get what are you addicted to, no matter if it means you're going to lose loved ones, or family..
You're getting what I am hitting up here, right? So, here is Aronofsky's one of the greatest movies "Requiem For A Dream". For many times, Aronofsky slapped us in the face with his movies. So let's discuss this one.
This movie is dazzling with it's visual swagger and a slew of split screen rapid-fire cuts. "I try be an expressionist, to use the camera to push the emotion of the scene. That's the goal, to marry style with performance. And there'll be some people who can't hang with that, because it's a young style. It's designed for people who grew up with a lot of visual stimulus" - Aronofsky explains.
Requiem is his one of the most remembered works and probably one of his polarizing which is saying something for him. This is movie that is really devastating and it's about addiction essentially whether it's through drug use as well, as television addiction. It's very staccato, very bombastic film-making that enhances the downward spiral, so that you are immersed in their feelings, their emotions, their paranoia, their desperation.
This movie is very dark and the reason why am I writing this is, that things only worsen for the four main characters as their addictions become more severe. Instead of this inspirational story where the characters join together and beat their addictions together, you get something else entirely you watch them be ruled by and controlled by it to the point where they were literally do just about anything to get their fix. What this film does is show you the perspective and lifestyle I was struggling addict and it tells us the way from their point of view.
